McNary wins play-in games

By DEREK WILEY Of the Keizertimes McNary’s girls and boys soccer teams are both going to the playoffs. Playing at home, the Celtics made it clear they’re one of the best 32 teams in the state, easily defeating South Medford 4-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 25. On the same night, the Lady Celts went to Newberg and won 1-0 to clinch their spot. The McNary boys put three shots on goal in the first seven minutes. Then in the 10th minute, Gustavo Villalvazo fired a free kick off the post, which Javier Zepeda finished to put the Celtics up 1-0. Zepeda then beat a South Medford defender and put a ball past the goalkeeper to expand the Celtics lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute. McNary added two more goals in the final 11 minutes, the first from Luis Martinez and then Francisco Rios completed the scoring on an assist from Bryan Keo. “We’re creating opportunities, we’re scoring goals and looking good.,” McNary head coach Miguel Camarena said. “We didn’t allow any goals and that’s key. If you want to win games and be champion, you have to be zero in the back.
