A Keizer sex offender was arrested recently for encouraging child sexual abuse.
Larry Lee Edwards, 51, was charged with 10 counts of the crime on Nov. 19. Edwards was arrested and taken to the Marion County Correctional Facility with a bail of $200,000.
At 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 19, investigators with the Keizer Police Department served a search warrant at the Edwards residence at 4090 Hennessy Lane NE in Keizer. The warrant was issued by Marion County Circuit Court based on a cyber tip that Edwards, a registered predatory sex offender in Oregon, was involved in the posting of child pornography online. More information about Edwards’ sex offender history is available at http://sexoffenders.oregon.gov/.
Edwards was taken into custody without incident and charged with 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree. He was arraigned the next day and charged with 10 additional counts. According to the KPD, thousands of images and videos of child pornography were recovered from electronic media in Edwards’ possession when the warrant was served at his home.
“At this time, there is no evidence to lead investigators to believe Mr. Edwards has sexually abused any new victims,” a KPD statement read. “However, due to the allegation Mr. Edwards has committed the new crimes of encouraging child sexual abuse and based on the severity of Mr. Edwards’ past crimes/convictions and the fact he is a registered predatory sex offender, the Keizer Police Department is issuing this media release as we feel it is in the public’s interest to do so.”
Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious and/or criminal activity involving Edwards is asked to contact KPD detective Ben Howden at 503-856-3525 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The KPD is actively investigating and pursuing all those who possess, exchange, distribute or produce images and/or videos of child pornography.
