Lady Celts 2-0 on pitch

By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes After a later start than many of their peers on other teams, the McNary High School girls varsity soccer team has a record of 2-0. The Lady Celts took their first win, 5-0, off Benson High School Tuesday, Sept. 8, and notched the second Thursday, Sept. 10 in a home game vs. the Dallas High School Dragons. McNary beat Dallas 3-1 in a game that saw the team debut a new formation designed for “controlling the midfield and creating consistent scoring opportunities,” said AJ Nash, McNary head coach. “Our goalie (Syndey Snapp) helped us a lot by telling us where to be from the back and the whole team did a good job of communicating,” said Gina Manguia, a McNary freshman. Dallas took a 1-0 lead before the half, but McNary had numerous shots on goal that went just wide of the mark. In the second half, Michaela Sanchez slotted a one-touch shot in the lower left corner in the 55th minute to level up the game, assisted by Kolbie Kopp.  Eight minutes later, Munguia released Janie Jarmin on a breakaway with a pass up the middle that Jarmin finished with good technique.
