Volcanoes take series win over Hawks

By HERB SWETT For the Keizertimes It was a better week for the Volcanoes than the previous one, with a split of the last two games with Everett and a series win over Boise. Aug. 26: Volcanoes 3, Everett 2 (10 innings) This win evened the Volcanoes’ road series at 2-2. It was a 1-0 Salem-Keizer game until the ninth inning, when Chris Shaw made it 2-0 with his eighth home run of the season. Then Everett tied it in the bottom of the ninth, but the Volcanoes scored the final run in the 10th. The first Volcano run came in the third, when a double by Shilo McCall drove in Junior Amion, who had also doubled. Starting pitcher Grant Watson was removed after 3-1/3 innings, when the bases were full of AquaSox players, but Eric Sim came in and retired the side. Caleb Smith took the mound for the Volcanoes in the ninth, and Corey Simpson singled home Alex Jackson and Luis Liberato to tie the score. In the Salem-Keizer 10th, Ronnie Jebavy doubled and stole third base, and Steven Duggar singled him home. Smith set down the AquaSox in order in the bottom of the inning to get his third win against two losses. Matt Clancy was the losing pitcher at 1-4.
