S-K takes win in bottom of 10th

The Volcanoes edged Eugene 6-5 in 10 innings Sunday, Aug. 23, at home to avoid a series sweep. After trailing from the start through two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Salem-Keizer tied the score and took one more inning to keep its bats going. The Emeralds took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Donnie Dewees hit an infield single off  Volcano starter Luis Pino and went to second base as Frandy De La Rosa singled to right field. Andrew Ely walked to load the bases, and Pino walked Andrew Ely to force Dewees home. Alberto Mineo singled to right, driving in De La Rosa. Pino kept Eugene scoreless for the next two innings, and the Volcanoes scored their first run in the third. Christian Lichtenthaler, who had played little this season but was to have a 3-for-5 night, hit a one-out single to center. Ronnie Jebavy reached first base on an error by second baseman De La Rosa, with Lichtenthaler moving to second. Steven Duggar grounded out but Miguel Gomez walked to load the bases. Emerald starter Kyle Twomey walked Chris Shaw, forcing in Lichtenthaler. Preston Morrison relieved Twomey and struck out Fernando Pujadas to retire the side.
