Kennedy Elementary School is going all-out for its Open House event Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Students will find out who their new teachers are and explore new home rooms, but there will also be opportunities to get dental and vision screenings, free haircuts and more.
New Kennedy principal Jesse Leonard, who was reassigned from Gubser at the end of the last school year, is tapping into local resources to make the event a community resource fair.
Easter Seals, NW Human Services. Keizer Police Department, Capitol Dental, Salem Keizer School Nurses, Lancaster Family Health, Boys and Girls Club, Mano a Mano Family Center, Church on the Hill (haircuts) and Chemeketa’s High School Equivalency Program are all participating.
The Kennedy Resource Fair will start at 4:30 and end at 6:30 p.m. (30 minutes after the Open House ends.)
All other Keizer elementary schools, Keizer, Cummings, Forest Ridge, Clear Lake, Gubser and Weddle, will host their Open House activities the same day from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet and talk with teachers. School supplies can also be dropped off during Open House hours.
The first day of school for sixth and ninth graders is Sept. 2. All other grades except kindergarten and preschool, begin Wednesday, Sept. 3. Kindergarten programs begin Sept. 9 and preschool programs begin Sept. 16. Head Start students begin Sept. 17.
