David Oxley passed peacefully on Oct. 1, 2013 with his family at his bedside after a brief battle with lung cancer and several strokes.
David was born in Portland Feb. 2, 1938 to Helen and John Oxley. He is survived by his wife Lane Oxley, sons Brad and Matt Oxley, brother John Oxley and sister-in-law Carol Oxley, grandson Jackson Burton and numerous nephews and nieces.
David graduated from Central Catholic High School. He attended college in Ohio, graduating with a degree in philosophy. He worked as a social worker in Newport where he met and married his beautiful wife of 48 years. He then managed several JCPenny’s stores, ending his retail career in Renton, Wash.
They moved back to Oregon where he was employed part-time at Keizer Storage Center, while enjoying retirement.
David and Lane enjoyed traveling, walking, reading and singing. He was a member of Paradise Harmonizers, Barbershop Chorus, Just For Fun Singers and Salem Community Chorus. David was a friend to everyone he met. He loved doing things for others and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and community.
His Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Friday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the John Knox Presbyterian Church, 452 Cummings Lane North. Contributions in his name can be given to Keizer Community Food Bank.
