No end in sight for members of the Keizer Planning Commission

  By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes Technically, the name is the Keizer Planning Commission. For some commissioners, however, the group name might as well be Hotel California. In particular, this line from the classic Eagles song would apply: “You can check out anytime you’d like but you can never leave.” Three of the seven commissioners – Greg Rands, Jim Jacks and Jared Choc – each had their term expire in September. The assumption was all three men were done immediately. Rands was told by Nate Brown, director of Community Development, he wouldn’t need to come to the Sept. 11 Planning Commission meeting because his replacement would be sworn in that night. However, a couple of issues arose. First, there weren’t three volunteers who applied for the vacant seats. Michael DeBlasi applied and was confirmed by the Keizer City Council on Sept. 3. Erick Peterson also applied, but he already serves on two committees – plus he applied for another position as well – so he won’t be able to join the Planning Commission, at least for now. Councilor Cathy Clark gave kudos to Jacks and Rands at the Sept. 3 council meeting. “They have done a great job, with tremendous dedication,” Clark said. “We have such a talented group serving.
