Unfinished work as Adams leaves

  By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes As Marc Adams hands off his position as chief of the Keizer Police Department this weekend, he also passes on issues he struggled with. Two of the main issues facing the KPD have been the fight on drugs and staffing levels. The two issues are somewhat related, bonded with the overall issue of funding. The solution, particularly in regards to drugs? Be a sheep dog. “The big issue is going to be maintaining staff and equipment,” Adams said. “More and more technology comes out, like body cameras. “It’s expensive. It’s great technology, but it all costs money. It’s a violent society out there. If a wolf comes along to attack the herd, we have to defend, just like a sheep dog.” A police department’s equivalent to the sheep dog is the officer, but limited resources over the years have impacted that.
