For the Keizertimes
The Volcanoes came from behind to win a wild one 11-10 over Everett at home Monday.
It was the first five-game sweep of the AquaSox in Volcano history and involved a relief pitcher, Christian Jones, who got the win despite making only six pitches.
Everett started the scoring with three first-inning runs, giving Salem-Keizer’s Nick Vander Tuig a rough start on the mound despite having recently concluded an impressive record at UCLA. With Jack Reinheimer and Bryan Brito on base with singles, Justin Seager hit a double to left field to drive both runners home. A single to center by Austin Wilson scored Seager.
In the bottom of the first, the Volcanoes tied the score with three hits and a sacrifice fly. An infield single by Tyler Hollick was followed by Jeremy Sy’s home run, his seventh, over the left field fence. Lars Huijer, who came into the game with a 7-1 record, loaded the bases with singles by Leo Rojas, Brian Ragira and Tyler Horan. Blake Miller hit a fly to left, and Rojas tagged and scored.
Everett scored three more times in the second. Phillips Castillo hit a bad-hop single to left, Michael Faulkner walked, and both advanced on a wild pitch. Reinheimer grounded out but drove in Castillo. Faulkner stole third base and scored on a double by Kyle Petty. Jake Shadle came in to pitch, and Seager scored Petty with a single to center.
