Having a deer spotted along the road in Keizer is rare enough.
But twice in the same day?
Officers with the Keizer Police Department indeed responded to two calls of deer on roadways last Thursday, July 11.
The first incident involved a deer running onto the road late in the morning on Lockhaven Drive, near the intersection with McLeod Lane by Countryside Christian Church. The deer was hit by an eastbound car, resulting in a smashed windshield and the deer ultimately being put down.
“A deer was hit by a car at or near that intersection,” Sgt. Lance Inman with the KPD said. “It limped off to a landscaped area in the church parking lot before collapsing. An officer made a determination that the deer needed to be dispatched rather than leaving it to suffer.”
As such, the officer put the deer down with his firearm and had Valley Recycling and Disposal remove the body from the scene.
