A plan by Avamere Health Services to build a 48-bed facility in Keizer has gotten the green light.
Albert Castaneda, director of Growth and Development at Avamere, talked about his company’s plans during the July 10 Keizer Planning Commission meeting. Commissioners approved the plans, which don’t require approval from the Keizer City Council.
The memory care facility will be located on 3.09 acres of land at 450 Claggett Court NE, a new road to be constructed behind St. Edward Catholic Church. Avamere’s current campus is located across River Road from St. Edward’s.
The one-level building will provide care for people suffering from ailments such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“The road will serve the church, this facility and the rear part of the church property,” said Sam Litke, senior planner for Keizer. “It can be developed in the future.”
Castaneda, a former Planning Commission member, noted Avamere used to have a building for dementia patients, but not now.
