The McNary High School varsity softball team’s season ended in a 4-3 nailbiter loss in the quarterfinals with No. 1 seed Lincoln High School Friday, May 24.

The Celts’ early lead crumbled in a three-run fourth inning for the Cardinals and the game ended before McNary could fully recapture momentum.

“Our team never gave up in any game,” said Kevin Wise, McNary head coach in his first year as skipper of the program. “They figured out how to dig a little deeper and push, much like you witness with elite teams. It was definitely a learning and growing experience for all of us, and one that I am sure will make us better.”

McNary’s achievement this season is even more impressive given that the team was led by just two seniors, Paige Bouska and Jordyn Hanson, both of whom will continue their careers in college this fall. The majority of the 2013 roster was comprised of freshmen and sophomores.
