To the Editor:
This needs to be stopped before it gets started. Since when does the Parks Board have the authority to propose new taxes? Because let’s be honest-—that’s exactly what this is.
The city charter provides that water revenue shall be used only for water services. If more money is required for parks, the correct options are to adjust dollars in the general fund; or to have a bond levy. I might even vote for it, if the need was explained properly.
Let us not go down the road Portland has, with high and ever-growing water bills used for any number of pet projects. And new taxes like this levied without a vote.
