To the Editor:

An open letter to the Keizer community:

As you might have heard, the outside concession stand at McNary High School was broken into again a couple of weeks ago. As disappointing and frustrating as it was, it also proved that we live in a great community that truly lives our city motto of Pride, Spirit and Volunteerism.

Knowing that our Athletic Booster Club uses the funds raised from concessions to help all of the sports teams at McNary, the community rallied together when they heard of our bad news. I received many phone calls from neighbors wanting to help us get the concession stand ready for the upcoming track meets and upgrade the security of the stand.

I want to thank each and every one who offered their support. I want to acknowledge Lewis Chike, Doug and Allisa Jones, Patricia LaRock, Bruce Knopp, S & W Woodworks, SecureTronics, Lake Point Community Church and Pastor Tom Fox. The generosity even extended beyond our city’s boundaries. Annette’s Restaurant in West Salem, South Salem High School Boosters, and Thomas Auto Sales in Hillsboro graciously donated to replenish what was lost.

Albertsons restocked our stand with supplies for a meet and Creed and Nancy Brattain did the same for another. The school district’s Keizer area maintenance staff of John and Mike along with Steve and the other custodial staff at McNary initiated a repair and clean-up of our stand so we could open for business the next day. I appreciate the Keizertimes, Statesman Journal, Fox 12 and KGW for getting the word out to the community. Please extend a thank you to those who donated and the businesses that supported us. What a great community we live in.
