The McNary High School girls varsity track and field team capped an undefeated run through the Central Valley Conference with a 81-60 win over Sprague High School Wednesday, May 8.
The win puts the Lady Celts in the driver’s seat headed into the CVC district preliminaries Wednesday past press time. It puts a lot of pressure on the team to perform well, but Daysha Simms-Garcia said the teammates will be looking to each other for support.
“It will mean a lot of positive thinking and an optimistic outlook, talking to each other about nerves and cheering each other on,” Simms-Garcia said.
While the girls are undefeated, the boys’ losses have all been extremely close with one or two points making the difference in many cases. Frank Gauntz, McNary head coach, said buy-in to a team philosophy of track and field is what’s made the difference this season.
“We don’t have any individuals and that’s great, they’re just getting out there and competing for each other,” he said.
