Meet Keizer’s youngest retailer

By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes If you shop at the new M.Y.R. Boutique on Chemawa Road, plan to stop by in the late afternoon or evening. It’s not that owner Maritza Yazmin Ramirez loves to sleep in. During the day, Maritza goes to classes before working at her shop from 4 to 8 p.m. Maritza is a 15-year-old sophomore at McNary High School. She started selling dog clothing online at age 11 and has expanded from there. Her boutique at 390 Chemawa Road N. has an emphasis on fairy princess tutus and wings, in addition to shoes and hair accessories. “My dog got me started,” Maritza said during her grand opening March 29. “Dog clothing is so expensive. I joked with my mom we should start a business and sell dog clothes. She said to do it.” Thus the online Precious Gems online store was born, with items ranging from dog clothing to clothes for children. “It worked out great,” Maritza said. “Business was pretty good. We sold items mostly to family. My brother and sister helped me make fliers.” Younger sister Briana, 12, an aspiring model, models clothes for Maritza’s website and also helps out at the store. Maritza’s dad and uncle did work on the building, located on the other half of the facility housing Classic Tap Dance Studio. To read the complete article and other...

Outback bloomin’ in Keizer

By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes Come July, Keizer Station will have a new first: a sit-down restaurant. Company officials have confirmed the Outback Steakhouse under construction should be open sometime that month. Jon Lakefish, director of Franchise Marketing for Evergreen Restaurant Group, said an exact opening date isn’t known yet. “The opening date is sometime in July, likely the early to mid part,” Lakefish told the Keizertimes March 29. “This is indeed going to be an Outback. It will be a relocation. We are moving the Salem one to Keizer.” Lakefish said that means Tim Flora, currently managing partner of the Outback on Lancaster Drive in Salem, will be the manager at the Keizer Station location.
