White pride rally causes stir

A small group of people holding signs and posting banners held a sidewalk rally calling for white pride on Saturday, March 23, at the entrance to Keizer Station. Frank Anderson of Scappose, who spoke for the group, said the purpose of the rally was to mark White Pride Worldwide Day. “We’re not here opposing other people,” said Anderson. “We’re not trying to exclude anyone, we’re trying to get other people to be proudly white.” He added that the group was against oppression as well as mass and illegal immigration. Controlling traffic in a roundabout way

By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes Most times of the day, traffic isn’t too bad at the junction of Chemawa Road North and Verda Lane. “It flows freely 23 ½ hours a day,” said Nate Brown, director of Community Development for Keizer. In those other 30 minutes – the 5 to 5:30 p.m. timeframe on weekdays – it’s a different story at the four-way intersection, currently controlled by stop signs. “The current four-way stop is failing,” Brown said. “The intersection does not meet the needs of the community. The standards for intersections are graded A through E, with E failing. It was rated E.” Last week, an open house was held at Keizer Civic Center to show a couple of different options for a new roundabout that will be constructed. Work is anticipated to start in the summer of 2014. All Stars repeat for second intramural title

By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes In the early minutes of the Celtic All Stars’ championship match with the Eloys in the final round of the intramural basketball season last week, the basketball team’s ability to repeat as the league champions might have been in question. Five minutes into the game, however, the All Stars had staged a comeback and retained a comfortable lead that was capped by a 9-0 run in the game’s final minutes and a 41-33 victory. “We had our eyes on the prize the whole two weeks, but we also didn’t get too cocky,” said All Star Jason Aguilar.
