GNA discusses boundary expansion

By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes Leaders with the Gubser Neighborhood Association are looking to expand the boundaries of the association. The question is whether that should be done, or if surrounding areas should form their own neighborhood associations. The issue was discussed during the Feb. 21 GNA meeting, held in the media center at Gubser Elementary School. Brad Coy, president of the GNA, said the idea would be to expand the association’s boundaries to match the Gubser Elementary boundary. “There is no group active now in the Country Glen area or along Chemawa Road North,” Coy said. “Kids there attend Gubser Elementary. It seems like an obvious boundary. We can extend where our reach is, with the intent to bring more people out. It would allow more people to be involved. It includes supporting schools.” For more of this article and other news from around the Keizer area, pick up a copy of the March 8 issue of Keizertimes, available at stores all around the area. Clear Lake teacher makes math, life an interactive experience for students

By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes Teachers have been slyly using their students’ names in word problems for years, but Melissa Juskowiak takes the experience to a whole other level. She cues up a video in which she reads a math fraction problem over slides of students’ photographs showing them with with books they’ve gotten out of a box. When the reading is complete, the whole problem appears on the screen with photos of the students reappearing under it. She invites other students to come up and touch the pictures, which triggers the voices of the classmates reminding them of how many books each of them got.
