In a rare split vote, members of the Keizer Planning Commission Feb. 13 narrowly approved a recommendation for how long RVs can be on church property.
Commissioners voted 4-3 to allow RVs to be on church property for up to 90 days a year, up from a staff recommendation of 60 days. The Keizer City Council has the final say on the issue.
For the second consecutive month, discussion on the topic consumed most of the meeting. That led to some short tempers, as did a tense exchange about the legality of traveling pastors in RVs at the Truth Tabernacle Church at 3795 Pleasant View Drive NE in Keizer over the years. Complaints from a neighbor last summer led to the topic being brought to the Planning Commission.
