“Coaching Confidential: Inside the Fraternity of NFL Coaches” by Gary Myers

“Coaching Confidential: Inside the Fraternity of NFL Coaches” by Gary Myers c.2012, Crown Archetype $26.00 / $31.00 Canada 263 pages   BOOK REVIEW by TERRI SCHLICHENMEYER Your weekends are suddenly wide open and empty. No more extra televisions in the living room. No more Sunday snack-binging. You’ve put away your make-up, your lucky shirts, and the hats that no team can win without. It’s enough to make a grown (wo)man cry. Yes, football season is over for you. But for thirty-two men, the end of one season signals the beginnings of another – that is, if they still have jobs. Community playground idea still being explored

By CRAIG MURPHY Of the Keizertimes Plans are progressing for a large playground area at Keizer Rapids Park. One of the main questions at this point is whether the project will be done this year or next year. When the idea for an expansive playground was brought to the Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board last month by citizen William Stitt, the idea was to get plans together as quick as possible to apply for grants this spring. On Jan. 8, Parks Board members talked with representatives from New York-based Play by Design, which has done community-built play structures at parks around the country. Dave Iannello, co-founder of Play by Design along with Lee Archin, gave rough numbers for how long the process could take. A Noble deed

By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes A McNary High School alum will have a role in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural ceremony Monday, Jan. 21. Alex Noble, of Keizer, will perform at the 57th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. with Tennessee’s Lee University Festival Choir. “It’s a great honor. I feel very privileged. Not everyone can say they sang for a president,” said Noble by phone earlier this week. Noble, a former student of McNary choir director Jim Taylor, is a sophomore music business major at Lee.
