National Night Out is set for Tuesday, August 7 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

It’s a nationwide get-to-know-your-neighbors event. Residents are asked to turn on the lights and spend an evening outside with fellow Keizerites – after they lock their doors, of course.

More than 15,000 communities participate in the event, designed to promote police-community partnerships, crime, drug and violence prevention, safety and neighborhood unity.

Some 43 Keizer neighborhoods hosted events in 2011. Keizer Police encourage all neighborhood watch block captains to organize an event, meet their fellow residents and update their watch rosters.

But you don’t have to be part of an organized group to register. And if you don’t know where to start, WhitePages.com is partnering with National Night Out to plan block parties with online tools, including sending postcards to neighbors and viewing RSVPs on a map. Visit whitepages.com/nno for more.

And to register, a simple online form is available at Keizerpd.com. The official page for the national effort is nno.org.
