Right-of-way issues delay Chemawa improvements

Delays have pushed back a sidewalk, street improvement and stoplight project on Chemawa Road N. until 2013. The Oregon Department of Transporation is in charge of the project, and needs more time to acquire land for right-of-way. “Our agents are out there right now going door-to-door and discussing right-of-way strips we’ll be taking for the sidewalks and beautification,” said Michael Schroeder, local area liaison for ODOT. The new bid date is December 8, with construction expected to take place next summer. The public may still see workers out this year, surveying and moving power and gas lines. The project affects Chemawa Road west of River Road, and cost estimates are at approximately $3.4 million. From River Road west to the city limits – just west of 15th Avenue – separated sidewalks, bike lanes and rain gardens will be added. A multi-use paved path is planned from the city limits west to the park. The combination will create access for pedestrians and bicyclists without having to use the roadway or the shoulder. Marion County Fair opens July 12

The Marion County Fair is scheduled for Thursday-Sunday,  July 12-15 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. Every day there will be the traditional fair fun. Free live major music acts and entertainment, a living green expo, free youth games and activities, Aunt Bee’s country market, carnival rides, talent show,wiener dog race and petting zoo to name just a few. Below is the calendar of events that will happen along with the fair activities: July 12 is Senior Day (free for those 62 and older) This day’s events will include: Free health screenings, talent show, old fashioned cake walk, arts and crafts workshops, quilting and spinning demonstrations, dance groups, Veterans’ displays, bean bag baseball and more, July 13 is Teen Day, a $4 admission. Joe Diffie concert will be free with your fair admission.  Carnival rides and games all day will be 50 percent off. Also Wwear your Awesome 3000 T-shirt and get in free.  Other events this day will include a dance-off, BMX bike and skateboard demos, sports court, hot rod cruise-in, hip hop dance demos, karate demos, gamers tournament and more. July 14 is AG Day.  Blue Oyster Cult concert is free with fair admission.  There will be a Disney show, main state music, KBZY pretty baby contest, gypsy draft horse and Miniature horse shows, state 4-H livestock judging, 4-H/FFA BBQ and Market Auction, international flyball dog competition.
