Leslie Stoddard of Keizer was presented a Lifesaver award by Whiteaker Middle School principal Laura Perez and Keizer Fire Chief Jeff Cowan.
Stoddard, whose son attended the school, was volunteering in the cafeteria in early June when a student came up to her and said she was choking. Stoddard performed the Heimlich Maneuver and dislodged the cause of the choking.
After seeing the school nurse and notifying her parent, the student returned to class.
Stoddard said she just did what needed to be done. She has volunteered more than 300 hours at Whiteaker Middle School.
