Gene’s Meat now has local outpost

By JASON COX Of the Keizertimes Gene’s Meat Market now has a store in Keizer. A Santiam Canyon mainstay for more than 60 years, the outpost on River Road has been on the radar for quite some time. They carry a wide variety of smoked and fresh meats at their main store; the one here focuses on the smoked varieties. “Everybody that’s been coming through here has been saying they wish there was something like this in Salem,” said Chris Shoe, a business partner along with Steve Giesy. The satellite store carries hams, bacon, beef jerky, sausages (German and summer) along with turkey. Each and every smoked product is award-winning. Some fresh meats are on hand; more can be ordered in advance and picked up at the Keizer store by calling the Mehama location at 503-859-2252. Gene’s Meat Market Location: 4906 River Road, Keizer Phone: (503) 390-5386 Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.– 5 p.m. Closed...
