McNary High School seniors are eligible for a $1,500 scholarship established in memory of Steve Neal, a McNary graduate of 1967. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1971 and received a master’s degree from the School of Journalism at Columbia University in 1972. Mr. Neal was a White House Correspondent for the Chicago Tribune during the Reagan administration and a political columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times for 17 years. He was the author of ten books, including “McNary of Oregon,” Tom McCall, Maverick,” and “Happy Days are Here Again.”
The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating McNary senior who maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 through seven semesters. Applicants must declare an intention to study journalism and/or political science. Additional details are available in the McNary High School Career Center. Applications are due May 11, 2012.
