Musical instrument retailer Guitar Center has filed a building permit application to locate at Keizer Station, inside the former Party City location at 6325 Ulali Drive NE.

The permit application was filed Friday, Oct. 14. Officials from Guitar Center and Donahue Schriber, the owners of Keizer Station, were not immediately able to confirm the retailer’s plans.

Headquartered in Westlake Village, Calif., Guitar Center is the nation’s largest musical instrument retail chain, with 218 stores in the United States as of May 2011.

The company started out selling organs in Hollywood, Calif., becoming The Vox Center during the 1960s, selling guitars and amplifiers. Guitar Center started selling stock in 1997, and stockholders were bought out in 2007 by Bain Capital in a $1.9 billion deal. Guitar Center also owns online retailer Musician’s Friend, now a subsidiary headquartered in Medford.
