Apartment fire damages at least four homes

By LYNDON A. ZAITZ and JASON COX Of the Keizertimes A fire at Clearview Apartments in east Keizer Wednesday afternoon killed at least one cat and damaged at least four homes. Keizer Fire personnel were dispatched at 4:37 p.m. Firefighters from Marion County Fire Dist. 1 and Salem Fire Department also responded. There were no apparent injuries to people, but KFD spokesperson Anne-Marie Storms said at least one cat died in the fire. The cause is under investigation. Flames were shooting from a second-story window when personnel arrived. Jasmine Grove lived in one of the apartments with her boyfriend and mother. “That’s everything they have; it’s all gone,” she said through tears. Arriving fire crews found fire burning in the rear of a downstairs apartment. The flames had traveled into the upstairs apartment were spreading through both residences. Four apartments in the building received heavy smoke, water and fire damage. Damage estimates are pending. The apartment complex is owned by Greg and Monique Morgan and Katharyn Skorniak. Morgan was at the complex at the time of the fire, he and the maintenance worker, Josh Wolfe attempted to evacuate the apartments. Morgan and Wolf had been doing some work at the apartment complex when they smelled smoke and heard someone yell.
