Keizer Soccer team sign-ups close Aug. 7

Registration for the Keizer Soccer Club fall season, closes on Sunday, Aug. 7. Teams are filling up now so interested players and their parents should visit for more information. The deadline also applies to KSC’s Preseason Camp, running 8/22 through 8/25, and the  Kinderkick program. Games begin the weekend after Labor Day and will continue weekends through the end of October.  Practices are slated to begin the week of Aug. 29. Keizer Soccer Club, a non-profit organization, offers playing opportunities for kids from kindergarten through middle school of all skill levels. A rough railroad crossing on Hyacinth Street NE – highlighted in the SeeClickFix feature – is set for repair by October. In the meantime speeds have been reduced to 25 miles per hour over the Union Pacific rail crossing – coming from Keizer, that’s the second crossing just prior to reaching Portland Road NE. “We’re advising motorists it is a very rough crossing and to slow down well in advance so people don’t come speeding up behind you,” said Brian Hildebrandt, street services supervisor for the City of Salem. The repair will close the crossing for several days, and is weather-dependent, Hildebrandt said. A poster to the feature said a “huge pothole with metal plates and bolts” caused this person a flat tire and broken motor mount. Hildebrandt did note the railroad has up to 18 months to make the fix per federal law. The tentative plan calls for repaving the whole crossing. “This has been a long time coming; we’ve been working at this for two years,” Hildebrandt said.
