Volcanoes recover from slow start in Yakima, take two off Everett

By HERB SWETT For the Keizertimes The Volcanoes opened their home series with Everett by whipping the AquaSox 9-4, getting only nine hits but taking advantage of five walks and two errors. Starter Cameron Lamb, who has been working hard on his sinker, was the winning pitcher with five effective innings. Salem-Keizer had two big offensive innings, scoring four runs each in the second and fourth. In the second, Mike Murray doubled to center field, Brett Krill walked and Dan Burkhart reached first base on an error by first baseman Jharmidy De Jesus. Garrett Buechele walked, forcing Murray home. Brice Cutspec doubled, driving in Krill and Burkhart. Buechele went to third on the hit and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Chuckie Jones. The next run came in the third inning, when a single by Burkhart drove in Krill, who had doubled. In the fourth, Stephen Landazuri, Everett’s starting and losing pitcher, walked Cutspec on four pitches. A mound conference followed, and Cutspec reached second base on a passed ball before walking. Jordan Pries came in from the bullpen and hit Shawn Payne to load the bases. Joe Panik, whose parents were attending the game, singled to short left field, scoring Cutspec and reloading the bases.
