Volcanoes endure second losing streak

By HERB SWETT For the Keizertimes The Volcanoes lost their sixth straight game Saturday, blowing a lead to let visiting Everett win 8-4. It was part of Patriotic Weekend, with ceremonies preceding the game, the Volcanoes wearing stars-and-stripes jerseys, and fireworks following the game, all before a crowd of 3,846. The first inning looked encouraging for Salem-Keizer, with starting pitcher Cameron Lamb setting the Aquasox down in order and the Volcanoes scoring two runs. With one out, Kaohi Downing doubled to right field and scored on a single to left by Joe Panik. Panik went to third base on a single to center by Mike Murray and scored on a single to short left by Leonardo Ochoa. Stephen Landazuri walked Dan Burkhart to load the bases, a mound conference followed, and Landazuri struck out the next two batters. The second inning also looked promising. Lamb pitched a one-two-three top of the second. Ryan Honeycutt singled to left, and Julio Izturis was hit by a pitch. Although Downing struck out and Panik hit a fly to center, Honeycutt tagged and went to third on the fly. With Murray at bat, however, Izturis was picked off first.
