A Keizer woman came home to a burglary in progress Monday night.

The woman, who lives in the 700 block of Dearborn Avenue NE, called police at approximately 5:32 p.m. reporting four juveniles in her house.

They fled out the back door when they realized the resident was home, police said, but the woman discovered a haze of smoke leading to a burning blanket in the garage. She was able to put out the fire before calling police.

The juveniles had spraypainted markings like “503,” “420” and obscene words, destroyed several pictures, a smoke detector and other items inside the home. Total damage to the house is estimated at more than $1,000, according to Keizer Police Sgt. Andrew Copeland.

Just 13 minutes later four juveniles matching the woman’s description were spotted at River Road and Cummings Lane N. They ran, but were captured without further incident. All were arrested for arson, burglary and criminal mischief, and transported to the Marion County Juvenile Department.
