If the enthusiasm we saw at Ulta Cosmetics’ new Keizer Station location keeps up, it will do just fine.

Even before their grand opening a few weeks back, a steady stream of women were poking their head in and touring the new digs.

“It’s been received so well,” said Marybeth Meditz, general manager of the new store at Keizer Station. “When we were setting up the store we had women constantly peeking in.”

The store, among the newest of nearly 400 locations in 40 states – the first in Salem-Keizer and the fifth in Oregon – aims to be a one-stop shopping location for virtually everything beauty-related. In addition to products they offer full salon services, everything from hair care to waxing and facials.

The store carries a wide variety of what Meditz called “mass brands” – the well-known names you see almost everywhere that sells that type of product – and “prestige brands” like you might find at higher-end department stores.

For example, they carry a large amount of mineral makeup – “the first large installation in the Salem-Keizer area,” Meditz said.

They also carry high-prestige scents, full lines of professional hair products.

Staffers are trained in their area of expertise. And while women may be the primary target market, men aren’t left out either. The store also has hair, shaving and skin products for men in a section just for the boys.

“One of my employees calls it a one-stop Disneyland for women,” Meditz quipped.

The Chicago-based chain was founded in 1990. Their space at Keizer Station is just more than 10,000 square feet. It will employ between 30 and 40 full- and part-time staffers.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
