Car hits pole, knocks out stoplight, bolts

By JASON COX Of the Keizertimes A car accident destroyed an electrical box on River Road Saturday, March 19, shutting down a traffic signal and causing more than $20,000 in damage. The suspect left the scene and was ultimately apprehended in Silverton, police said. According to Keizer Police a man trying to turn left onto Claggett Street NE from River Road N. at about 10:50 a.m. Saturday, March 19, was driving too fast, lost control of his red minivan and crashed into a box controlling power and traffic signals at the intersection. The van sustained “extensive front end damage,” police said, and the suspect left the scene before officers arrived. At about 11:25 a.m. Marion County deputies received a report of a similar vehicle driving carelessly. It was headed towards Silverton. Deputies along with Silverton Police officers intercepted the vehicle, which had damage consistent with the earlier crash, police said. City work crews set up temporary stop signs at the intersection as the power box was repaired. Crew members said the damage could exceed $20,000. The driver, Daniel Morgan, 18, of Silverton, was arrested for reckless driving and failure to perform duties of a driver. More charges could be forthcoming.
