Lions roar at Renaissance Inn this weekend

By JASON COX Of the Keizertimes About 150 Lions from the mid-Willamette Valley and further will visit Keizer for a district convention this weekend. Hosted at the Keizer Renaissance Inn, the Oregon District R meeting is Jan. 28 and 29. It will include a banquet, auction, club business and raising money for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. The foundation has a wide variety of programs, including mobile health and eye screenings, distributing rebuilt hearing aids and used eyeglasses. They also provide funding for eye and ear surgeries for low-income Oregonians. “Over the years it’s expanded to include youth activities, youth opportunities and helping the community in almost every way they need assistance,” said Stella Horsley, secretary of the Keizer Lions Club. Our local club plays host for the event. Open to Lions members only, the event includes a speech from Douglas Alexander, director of the International Association of Lions Clubs. They’ll also honor the district’s top three 11-13 year olds who participated in the Lions Club’s Peace Poster Contest. “It’s quite a deal,” said John Hamstreet, Lions Club District Governor.
