Several burglaries in SE Keizer work of transient, police say

A transient man was arrested in connection with several home burglaries early Saturday morning in southeast Keizer. Police said the man tried to break into several homes on Shady Lane, Candlewood Drive and Susan Court, including a room where small children were sleeping. Two victims physically confronted the suspect, who got a fat lip for his efforts, police said. The 911 calls began at 3:23 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, when a woman in the 1200 block of Candlewood Drive NE reported a man waas trying to enter her house through the front door. The woman reported the man walked into her backyard, but responding Keizer Police officers were unable to find him. At about 4:17 a.m. a man in the 1200 block of Susan Court NE said a man was trying to break into a bedroom where his young children were sleeping. The victim went into his backyard while calling 911 and confronted the suspect, police said. When the suspect reached into his jacket “like he had a weapon,” police reported, the victim punched the suspect in the face. The suspect then ran on foot, and the victim lost him. Keizer Police officers were nearby, and set up a perimeter. A Salem Police K9 officer unit also responded, but officers were unable to locate him.
