Ronald Fred Weatherford, a Keizer resident and a long-time Medford educator, died August 30 in Salem. Weatherford served as an elementary school principal for 30 years in the Medford school district.
Weatherford was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Oakland, CA. In his early years he moved to Medford and continued to live in Oregon most of his life, calling Medford home for 45 years. His grandparents on both sides were Oregon pioneers in Gilliam, Linn, and Union counties.
He is survived by his widow and college sweetheart, Joanne; the couple were married for 61 years. He had three grown children; Linda, Bruce, and Lisa. He had six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Sutton.
Weatherford was a Rotary member for more than 25 years, including more than 15 years in the East Salem Rotary club, where for eight years he served as chairman of the Student Exchange program.
Weatherford graduated from Northwest Nazarene College (University) in 1951. The college honored him as Alumnus of the Year in 1970. He received his Masters from the College of Idaho.
He was deeply involved in Medford’s Community Concerts, serving as a past president, and also helped to found the Britt Music Festival.
Memorial Service to be held September 11, 2 p.m., at the Salem First Church of the Nazarene. The family requests gifts in lieu of flowers to the church’s building fund.
