What a great surprise when the two reunions met Saturday night at the Tuff Ranch BBQ patio at McNary Golf Club.
Velma and Neil Tepper were visiting from Las Vegas and met with old friends, neighbors and co-workers. They retired in 2004, packed up their fifth wheel and moved to Nevada. This visit, Tom and Cheryl Bauer were to hold a BBQ at the Bauers but Tom had a family emergency and had to leave town. So Cheryl decided to move the party to Tuff Ranch BBQ.
Joining Cheryl were Ted and Susan Anagnos, Wayne and Marlene Wellin, Sharon and Randy Cook, who were all active in the Keizer Merchants Association together in the 1980s and ‘90s. All were very involved in creating the Iris Festival from the old Keizer Days, and the now-Keizer Chamber of Commerce. Velma worked at Commercial Bank and Bank of the Cascades in Keizer prior to her retirement. Co-workers Ken and Ann Dunn, Rick and Connie Kemp joined the group. Cheryl kept sending pictures and emails to Tom Bauer on how much fun they were all having.
Also, the Vikings (North Salem High School) class reunion of 1958 was gathering at Tuff Ranch for their party and dinner. We were surprised to recognize so many Keizer people in attendance. (Then we remembered McNary High School was built in 1965.) Soon both parties were mixing and visiting with each other. Many attendees were customers and friends of Velma and friends. Roses were given to the women attending the reunion and we in the Tepper party were also given roses. Mixing together were Jim Reimann, his sister Judy Mapes and her husband, LaMone, Layne and Sharon Brennan, Barbara McDonald, and Lorraine Dye. Jim and Roberta Young had a particularly good time because Roberta worked with Velma at the Bank of the Cascades, and Jim is active with the Keizer Elks and Keizer Heritage Museum. The usual topics of discussion were passed around: activities, trips together and yes, at this age, health issues. So surprises for each group became one big party.
